NDT Testing & Training Services - Overview

🔍 What is NDT?

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) refers to a set of techniques used to evaluate the integrity, properties, and defects of a material, component, or structure without damaging it.

NDT plays a critical role in quality control, safety assurance, and asset integrity across industries like:

  • Oil & Gas
  • Marine & Shipbuilding
  • Power Plants
  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Construction & Fabrication

We offer both NDT Services and NDT Training Programs, conducted as per ASNT, SNT-TC-1A, and other applicable standards.

🧪 NDT Methods Offered & Explained

1️⃣ LPT – Liquid Penetrant Testing

Purpose: To detect surface-breaking defects such as cracks, porosity, and seams on non-porous materials (both metals and non-metals).

Applications: Welds, castings, forgings, valves, tanks

Training Includes:

  • Penetrant types (water washable, solvent removable)
  • Cleaning and developer application
  • Interpretation of indications
  • Safety and surface preparation

2️⃣ MPT – Magnetic Particle Testing

Purpose: Detects surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials using magnetic fields.

Applications: Shafts, gears, weld joints, pipelines, structural steel

Training Includes:

  • AC vs DC magnetization
  • Yoke, coil, prods techniques
  • Wet & dry methods
  • Evaluation of magnetic indications

3️⃣ UT – Ultrasonic Testing

Purpose: Uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal defects, measure thickness, and characterize materials.

Applications: Pressure vessels, piping, welds, forgings, turbine blades

Training Includes:

  • Calibration of equipment
  • Types of probes (straight, angle beam)
  • A-scan, B-scan interpretation
  • Defect sizing and evaluation

4️⃣ RT – Radiographic Testing

Purpose: Uses X-rays or gamma rays to create radiographic images of internal structures.

Applications: Weld joints, castings, aerospace components, pipelines

Training Includes:

  • Radiographic techniques (film & digital)
  • Source handling (Ir-192, Co-60, X-ray)
  • Image interpretation & defect identification
  • Radiation safety & shielding

5️⃣ VT – Visual Testing

Purpose: The first and most basic NDT method that involves direct or remote visual examination of components.

Applications: Weld inspection, corrosion checks, fit-up verification

Training Includes:

  • Use of magnifiers, boroscopes, weld gauges
  • Acceptance criteria based on AWS/ASME
  • Reporting techniques
  • Lighting and accessibility considerations

6️⃣ UTG – Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

Purpose: Measures material thickness using ultrasonic pulses — without needing access to both sides of the object.

Applications: Corrosion monitoring, pipelines, tanks, structural components

Training Includes:

  • Equipment setup & calibration
  • Sound velocity settings
  • Surface prep and couplant use
  • Data logging and interpretation

7️⃣ Hardness Testing

Purpose: Determines the resistance of a material to deformation, wear, or indentation.

Common Methods:

  • Brinell (BHN)
  • Rockwell (HR)
  • Vickers (VHN)
  • Portable hardness testers

Training Includes:

  • Selection of appropriate method
  • Test setup and load application
  • Material property correlation
  • Standards and reporting

8️⃣ PMI – Positive Material Identification

Purpose: Identifies metal alloys and their composition using portable analyzers (XRF/OES).

Applications: Incoming material inspection, plant audits, weld verification

Training Includes:

  • Use of XRF or OES devices
  • Calibration and safety
  • On-site alloy identification
  • Report generation and data interpretation
